The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) announced on Monday (5th) a partnership with domain registrar GoDaddy, allowing users to link their domain names to ENS. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between the traditional Domain Name System (DNS) protocol used by all traditional websites and blockchain-based domain names.

This partnership will eliminate the barriers between traditional DNS and blockchain technology, without requiring users to pay additional costs or possess specialized technical knowledge. Linking DNS with ENS will allow over 20 million GoDaddy users to enjoy the benefits of ENS blockchain infrastructure, such as receiving cryptocurrency payments.

ENS is the most widely used naming protocol in the crypto field, enabling users to associate human-readable names (e.g., bob.eth) with long and complex Ethereum addresses, similar to the functionality of DNS in website URLs.

GoDaddy stated that the collaboration will enable users to connect their domains (e.g., .com) to ENS-compatible cryptocurrency wallets. The company said, “Receiving cryptocurrency payments has never been easier.”

ENS founder Nick Johnson stated that by pairing ENS domain names with GoDaddy domains, “we will simplify the way users interact with web domains, combining the familiarity of DNS with the potential of blockchain technology.”

This partnership overcomes previous obstacles such as high gas fees by deploying new smart contracts, achieving a cost-free link between DNS and ENS domains, and improving the transition process.

ENS continues to integrate traditional internet technologies, including increasing support for .box domains, which function similarly to standard web domains.
