zkSync, the Layer 2 network of Ethereum, announced on Wednesday (5th) that the protocol upgrade version v24 of zkSync Era has completed the audit and will be deployed on the mainnet on June 6. The deposit and withdrawal functions of the native zkSync cross-chain bridge will be temporarily suspended for 24 hours, but users can still bridge through third-party cross-chain protocols.

zkSync previously stated in mid-May that the upcoming v24 version is the final planned protocol upgrade before transferring network governance to the community, with the remaining missing parts expected to be in place by the end of June. These messages may imply that zkSync’s highly anticipated native token is about to be released.

Foreign media “The Block” reported last month, citing informed sources, that zkSync aims to conduct a token airdrop around June 13.

Matter Labs, the developer of zkSync, recently sparked controversy with the cross-chain protocol Polyhedra Network claiming its intention to take over their token code “ZK”, and the company was also criticized by other industry professionals for its trademark registration behavior. Matter Labs later announced on Monday that they will abandon all trademark applications for the term “ZK”.
