United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Approves Options Trading for Multiple Ethereum Spot ETFs

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved options trading for several Ethereum spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), including trusts issued by institutions such as BlackRock, Bitwise, and Grayscale.

In an “accelerated approval” document submitted on Wednesday, the SEC stated that it has permitted Nasdaq’s application for options trading on the “iShares Ethereum Trust” (ETHA). The agency also approved options trading proposals for the “Bitwise Ethereum ETF” (ETHW), “Grayscale Ethereum Trust” (ETHE), and “Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust” (ETH) as proposed by the New York Stock Exchange.

Prior to this, the SEC also approved options trading for multiple Bitcoin spot ETFs in the second half of last year.

Meanwhile, several institutions are also vying for their Ethereum ETFs to be able to participate in staking. If approved, this would provide additional returns on the ETH held by the funds and benefit investors. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart indicated that these proposals could be approved ahead of schedule, with the final review deadline at the end of October; however, the regulatory body may have some interim review deadlines, approximately in late May or late August.
