The central bank held a board of directors meeting on Thursday (21st), and made the decision to raise interest rates by half a percentage point. The rediscount rate was adjusted from an annual interest rate of 1.875% to 2%, returning to the level of December 2008, demonstrating the determination to combat inflation. Taking into account the proposed increase in domestic electricity prices, the central bank revised its CPI annual growth rate forecast for this year to 2.16%.

In addition, after the meeting, the central bank’s president, Yang Jinlong, mentioned Bitcoin during a press conference, but he only briefly described the risks of Bitcoin, saying “Bitcoin is like a roller coaster ride” and reminding investors to “fasten their seat belts”.
