Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Holds Productive Meeting with Binance Founder CZ
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated on the social media platform X on Tuesday that he has held a “productive” meeting with Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) to discuss Malaysia’s potential to become a major hub for digital assets and the blockchain industry.
Anwar emphasized the government’s leadership role and the importance of interdepartmental cooperation in promoting the development of the blockchain industry. He expressed a desire to continue dialogues with agencies such as the Securities Commission, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Ministry of Digital, “to jointly explore how to facilitate and promote responsible innovation.”
Anwar wrote:
His remarks indicate that Malaysia is considering the development of more forward-looking regulatory policies and frameworks to support tokenization and related financial innovations. As early as January of this year, Anwar discussed cryptocurrency, digital transformation, and AI-related policies with the government of Abu Dhabi and CZ.
CZ today retweeted Anwar’s post on X, stating that he “had a great discussion in Malaysia.”
Recently, CZ has met with multiple governments to promote blockchain applications and provide policy recommendations for digital assets. In addition to Malaysia, CZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kyrgyz government earlier this month to assist in the development of cryptocurrency-related policies and technical support for the country. Moreover, he has joined the Pakistan Crypto Committee as a strategic advisor to help promote cryptocurrency infrastructure, education, and application outreach.
