From Pure Meme to Clan Conflict
According to discussions on the X platform, a meme named “Glonk” originates from British comedian and writer Ricky Gervais’s “Flanimals” series of books. In the book, a green crawling creature named “Glonk” is created, which is described as “doing nothing and then dying,” reflecting sentiments of “lying flat” or “nihilism.”
This meme was quickly captured by two users, who launched a meme coin called GLONK on the platforms pump.fun and bonk.fun. It is reported that the pump.fun version went live three minutes earlier than bonk.fun, but the performance of bonk.fun’s GLONK was relatively outstanding.

Pump.fun claims its GLONK is the “original,” as a token of the same name was deployed three months ago. However, the success of bonk.fun’s version has stirred discontent within pump.fun. Founder Alon posted on X, “send the OG,” calling for support for pump.fun’s “original” GLONK, followed by a series of tweets suggesting that pump.fun is indeed the OG, and the OG will ultimately prevail.
However, bonk.fun is viewed as the “underdog,” gaining considerable community support. Additionally, the founder of bonk.fun has also taunted on social media: “If a token is valued at 3 million on BONK, while only 170,000 on Pump, and someone posts saying ‘let’s pump the OG (the old one),’ I think that’s quite lowbrow. Everyone has already chosen which version they support, and they have bid one of them up to 3 million; that’s not a small amount of money.”
In fact, aside from pump.fun and bonk.fun, the meme coin issuance platforms Boop.fun and Believe also have their own versions of GLONK. The dual issuance of GLONK not only reflects the speculative and volatile nature of the meme coin market but also exposes the lack of unified standards between platforms. Analysts point out that with the continued expansion of the meme coin market, similar conflicts may become increasingly frequent.
