UBS Wealth Management Asia Region
Amy Lo recently stated in an interview that the bank’s affluent clients are seeking portfolio diversification, spreading their dollar-denominated assets into other currencies and asset classes, including cryptocurrencies and gold. They are also showing a renewed interest in the Chinese market.
Market Volatility and Asset Diversification
At Bloomberg’s “New Voices” event in Hong Kong, Lo discussed how UBS’s wealthy clients are navigating market fluctuations amid trade tensions. She indicated that market volatility “is clearly here to stay,” and the trade tensions between China and the United States are prompting investors to diversify their asset allocations, as their previous investments were often “very concentrated in the U.S.”
Investing in Alternative Assets
Lo pointed out that in addition to seeking other currencies, these clients are also allocating more funds into cryptocurrencies, commodities, and alternative assets. She stated, “Gold has become very popular now.”
Incorporating Cryptocurrencies
Furthermore, according to Lo, family offices in Asia are beginning to consider incorporating cryptocurrencies into their asset allocation. In light of this new trend, institutions like UBS must be prepared to meet client demands.
Renewed Interest in Chinese Investment Opportunities
Amy Lo also mentioned that investor interest in the Chinese market is on the rise, with clients actively inquiring about investment opportunities in China.
