According to sources familiar with the matter, artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic is reportedly in talks for a new round of funding. Menlo Ventures is said to be leading this round, with an expected fundraising target of $750 million.
Insiders reveal that the company had a valuation of approximately $15 billion prior to this funding round. It is anticipated that the latest round of funding will increase the valuation to around $18 billion. While this figure is more than three times higher than the valuation at the beginning of this year, it falls short of the market rumors in October, which speculated a valuation of $20-30 billion.
Anthropic was founded by Dario and Daniela Amodei, former executives and siblings at OpenAI. The company has been striving to secure the necessary resources and strong support to compete with OpenAI and become a leader in the field of AI technology.
Previously, Anthropic has received investments from Google and Amazon, with the two tech giants agreeing to invest $2 billion and $4 billion respectively in the past few months. It is worth mentioning that FTX, before its closure, also led Anthropic’s Series B funding in 2022 with an investment of approximately $580 million. Therefore, the increase in Anthropic’s valuation is a positive development for FTX creditors.
