Solana Mobile, the smartphone division of Layer 1 blockchain Solana, announced on Wednesday (17th) the opening of pre-orders for its second-generation Saga phone. In order to “make Web3 technology more affordable and easier to popularize globally,” the company has set the initial pre-order deposit for the “Founder Window” at $450, less than half the original selling price of the previous generation phone ($1,000).
According to the description on Solana Mobile’s pre-order website, the pre-order deposit is planned to cover the full price of the second-generation Saga phone (excluding taxes, shipping, and fees), and it is emphasized that if for some reason (such as insufficient pre-order quantities) the product cannot be delivered, refunds will be provided.
The new phone is currently scheduled to be shipped in the first half of 2025, and Taiwan has been included in the list of available pre-orders.
To further incentivize early users, Solana Mobile has introduced a referral system for the sales of the second-generation Saga phone. By connecting their cryptocurrency wallet and X platform account, users can join the “Chapter 2” leaderboard. When others pre-order the new phone through their referral link, the referrer will have the opportunity to receive rewards and gifts from the ecosystem team, while improving their ranking on the leaderboard.
According to a previous report by Zombit, the sales performance of Solana’s first-generation Saga phone was not ideal. However, due to the skyrocketing of the meme coin $BONK on the Solana chain, resulting in a surge in market demand for this phone (as purchasing the phone could receive token airdrops), the official inventory was sold out in less than a week.
