Franklin Templeton comments on cryptocurrencies
JPMorgan CEO: Satoshi appears, Bitcoin disappears
Franklin Templeton’s digital asset research department, a subsidiary of the asset management company Franklin Templeton, took over the company’s official US account today and took the opportunity to release a series of tweets related to cryptocurrencies. These tweets include comments on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the Solana ecosystem. The account released fragmented viewpoints rather than comprehensive reports. For example, the account stated the following about the Bitcoin ecosystem:
Additionally, when discussing Ethereum, the account pointed out that despite the ecosystem facing to some extent a “mid-life crisis,” new concepts such as EIP 4844, the new DA layer, community revival, and Restake are driving the development of the Ethereum ecosystem. In addition, the research team recognizes the potential of Solana as a single-layer blockchain and is impressed by various ecosystem activities that will emerge in the fourth quarter of 2023 (such as DePIN, DeFi, Meme, NFT, etc.). Finally, the team concluded:
Although the main purpose of these actions seems to be promoting the new X account of the digital asset research department, “Franklin Templeton Digital Assets,” it can be seen from the content released that this department has a deep understanding of the cryptocurrency field.
In contrast, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon’s remarks during an interview yesterday were jokingly referred to as “acting as an amateur in a professional field” by many in the cryptocurrency community.
According to Benzinga’s report, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon expressed doubt about the final certainty of the 21 million Bitcoin supply limit during an interview with CNBC:
“I think that when we reach 20 million bitcoins, it’s a good opportunity… Satoshi (verbatim) will appear, and then all bitcoins will be deleted. How do you know it will definitely stop issuing after reaching 21 million?”
This statement has been criticized and mocked by many cryptocurrency enthusiasts. Reflexivity co-founder Will Clemente stated that Jamie Dimon’s embarrassing remarks demonstrate his lack of basic understanding of the Bitcoin system. Additionally, Jamie Dimon’s slip of the tongue mentioning “Satashi” has led to it becoming a meme coin that speculators are speculating on.
