According to the report from TechCrunch, Solana Mobile, the smartphone division of Layer 1 blockchain Solana, opened the pre-order for its second-generation Web 3 phone “Chapter 2” this Wednesday. Within the first 30 hours, it received 30,000 orders, surpassing the sales speed of the first-generation phone.

Raj Gokal, Co-founder of Solana and President of Solana Labs, revealed to TechCrunch that the demand for Chapter 2 is obviously huge. Solana Mobile received over 25,000 orders within the first 24 hours of pre-order release, completing the seven-day sales target. He also mentioned that the pre-order orders reached 30,000 within the initial 30 hours, surpassing the sales volume of Solana’s first phone, Saga, in 12 months.

According to reports, the new phone has similar features to the previous generation. It is based on the Android system and comes with an embedded crypto wallet, Seed Vault, and an app store called “dApp Store” that provides decentralized applications (dApps). The initial price is $450, which is lower than the discounted price of $599 for Saga. A Solana spokesperson stated that Chapter 2 will be shipped in the first half of 2025.

Gokal added that this phone represents the potential of cryptographic technology and provides value to users to incentivize app usage.

Goals of Chapter 2
Now, Solana hopes to replicate its previous success through Chapter 2. According to Solana Mobile’s FAQ, users of the new phone will not be able to use the genesis token of Saga, which is a non-transferable NFT that comes with each Saga phone and helps users redeem rewards. However, the company plans to develop a similar experience in Chapter 2.

Gokal stated,
“Chapter 2, in partnership with sponsors including Backpack, Tensor, Phantom, Solflare, Magic Eden, and Drip, plans to reward owners of this phone.”

Furthermore, Gokal mentioned that Chapter 2 focuses on wider distribution, increased accessibility, and leveraging the experience of the past two years to provide greater flexibility for developers and users. He also noted that the new generation phone has been brewing for over a year, and the company aims to provide “complete freedom” for cryptocurrency developers and users by not imposing restrictions or charging excessive fees on tokens or NFTs.
