Polygon Labs, the development team behind the Ethereum scaling solution Polygon, announced on Thursday (25th) a new solution called “AggLayer” that aims to connect different blockchains using zero-knowledge proof technology.

Polygon Labs stated that the first version of the AggLayer mainnet will be released in February. The goal of this aggregation layer is to allow developers to connect multiple blockchains to support unified liquidity. AggLayer will ensure the unified security of different architecture blockchains, including those within the Polygon ecosystem, by being modular and monolithic.

AggLayer will be a key component of Polygon 2.0, the next generation version of Polygon. Unlike typical interoperability solutions, AggLayer will aggregate zk-proofs of all connected blockchains. Polygon Labs stated:

“In addition, AggLayer v2, as mentioned in the official article, will support asynchronous cross-chain transactions and is expected to be launched later this year.”
