In a memorandum submitted last Friday, prosecutors from the US Department of Justice requested the court to sentence SBF, the founder of FTX, to 40 to 50 years of imprisonment. In response, SBF’s lawyer submitted a letter to Judge Lewis Kaplan on Tuesday, challenging the sentencing proposal made by the prosecutors last week and arguing that it is “not just”.
The letter contends that SBF has shown no signs of reoffending and has no criminal history. The lawyer also claims that the bankruptcy proceedings of FTX will restore all the value lost by users in the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange, a fact that the government has overlooked and is attempting to tarnish SBF’s reputation.
