Leading global cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company Bitget recently held a series of global events to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day. These celebrations took place from Asia to South America, commemorating the first time Bitcoin was used for a physical transaction and honoring the growth and community spirit of the cryptocurrency industry.
In addition, on May 22nd, Bitget partnered with the Pajamas project to host a Bitcoin Pizza Day party in Taipei, attracting over 200 cryptocurrency enthusiasts. The highlight of this event was a fascinating panel discussion on the theme “Transitioning to Web3: Leveraging Web2 Experience for Success,” featuring heavyweight guests including YouTube co-founder Steve Chen, Chill Blockchain from Nao Ge, Bonnie Blockchain, Mr. Blockchain, and core member Shazatami of the Pajamas project. The participants shared their valuable experiences and insights, enhancing attendees’ understanding of Web3 and sparking their limitless imagination for future development. In addition to being Bitcoin Pizza Day, it was also the 19th anniversary of the upload of the first video to YouTube by co-founder Steve Chen, titled “Pajamas and Nick Drake.”
Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated on May 22nd each year, symbolizing the first physical transaction with Bitcoin. On this day in 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoins (worth approximately $670 million today), marking a legendary moment in the crypto community. This year, Bitget organized a series of events worldwide to celebrate this milestone and bring together cryptocurrency enthusiasts, traders, and innovators. From May 19th to 22nd, Bitget hosted a total of 20 offline events in regions such as Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Bitget also produced a 3D video to convey this message.
Bitget also collaborated with PizzaDAO to sponsor more events in key cities to promote community participation and celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day. These cities include Tokyo, Madrid, Lisbon, Zurich, and Taipei. This year’s event was the fourth annual Global Pizza Party organized by PizzaDAO, attracting over 10,000 participants from 150 cities worldwide.
Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, stated, “Bitcoin Pizza Day symbolizes an important moment in the history of cryptocurrency, representing the evolution of cryptocurrency from a novel concept to a revolutionary force in the financial field. It also recognizes the early adopters who believed in the potential of decentralized technology and encourages us to continue exploring innovative uses for cryptocurrency. At Bitget, we gather the global community together every year to celebrate this milestone and reflect on the significant progress made in the industry.”
The rise of Bitcoin from $0.003 in 2010 to its current value of around $67,000 highlights the evolution of the financial landscape over the past decade and the journey of Bitcoin from an obscure digital currency to a widely recognized financial instrument. The Bitcoin Pizza Day events organized by Bitget are not only celebrations but also opportunities to reflect on the achievements and future potential of cryptocurrency.
