According to CoinDesk, Matter Labs, the main development company of the Ethereum Layer 2 network ZKSync, has launched a new roadmap called “ZKSync 3.0” in order to make the ecosystem more interconnected, which includes the new “Elastic Chain” architecture. The Elastic Chain consists of multiple chains within the ZKSync ecosystem, allowing multi-chain users to feel like they are using a single chain, similar to Polygon’s AggLayer.

In an article shared with CoinDesk, Matter Labs wrote that the core of ZKSync 3.0 is the v24 upgrade released on June 7th, which will transform ZKSync from a single ZK chain into an Elastic Chain.

Last year, Matter Labs released the modular open-source framework ZK Stack, which allows developers to build their own blockchains on ZKSync technology. Essentially, these customized chains will be interconnected through the Elastic Chain. Matter Labs wrote:

According to Matter Labs, the Elastic Chain will be composed of three core components. The first component consists of the “Native Token Vault” and the “Shared Router,” with the latter being the core of the network. The team wrote, “These components are implemented as a series of smart contracts on Ethereum and are responsible for managing network state and handling chain registrations.”

The second component is their ZK Gateway, which is a middleware that connects the Ethereum blockchain and the ZK chain of ZKSync, enabling interoperability between different chains within the ZKSync ecosystem. Matter Labs wrote:
