According to a report cited by Forbes, Point72 Ventures, the venture capital firm of-known hedge fund manager and owner of the MLB’s New York Mets, Steve Cohen, shifting its focus away from finance technology and cryptocurrency fields after laying off five investors. Two familiar with matter revealed that the company will be directing more attention toward investing in artificial intelligence and defense startups.

The departing employees include three fintech-focused investors and two investors from its digital team. Sources indicated that partners Tripp Shriner and Sugam Sarin may also, but another source suggested they may stay on to support existing portfolio companies.
