The Ethereum documentary “Vitalik: An Ethereum Story,” which has been in production since three years ago, is finally set to be released this year. Originally titled “Ethereum: The Infinite Garden,” the concept for this name was initially proposed by the Ethereum Foundation. However, as this is an independent film not produced by the Ethereum Foundation, the team ultimately decided to abandon this name to avoid confusion within the community.
This Ethereum-themed documentary is independently produced by the film company Optimist, produced by Carrie Weprin, and co-directed by Zach Ingrasci and Chris Temple. Linda Xie, founder of Scalar Capital and former Coinbase product manager, participated as a consultant. The filming budget was raised from the community through Mirror in 2021, totaling 1,035.96 ETH.
In an announcement released today, the team outlined the release plan in five stages:
Phase One: Trailer Release – July 23
The trailer will be minted on Zora, allowing unlimited minting to support the film’s distribution. Each mint will contribute to funding the movie. Additionally, the team will host a minting leaderboard event, with top contributors eligible for benefits such as attending the documentary premiere, free tickets, and end credits naming.
Phase Two: On-chain Ticket Pre-sale – July 26
View the film via the on-chain ticketing system provided by Base at ethereumfilm.xyz. Furthermore, the documentary will have live premieres at over 250 global locations through Gathr’s decentralized, community-driven platform.
Phase Three: Global Release – September 18
Ticket holders will have 30 days to watch the film on ethereumfilm.xyz. Live premieres around the world will bring together the global Ethereum community.
Phase Four: Extended Theatrical Release – Fall 2024
Community gatherings through live events and film screenings.
Phase Five: Mainstream Streaming Premiere – Winter 2024/2025
The film will be launched on global traditional streaming platforms (to be determined).
